Amy Carlson

The family was born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Amy Carlson spent most of her early life in the Chicago area. Amy lived in Glen Ellyn the city of Illinois, up until she entered junior college. The family also lived in the Middle East, where her parents, Bob (and Barb) taught at American School. Amy is the sister Betsy, Lori, and brother Joe. Amy has backpacked all over Europe with her family and independently. Because her parents worked as teachers and teachers, they could travel together every summer, and camping across the United States. In actuality, they've been camping in every state, with the exception of Alaska. Amy traveled to Rwanda to help in relief efforts after the war of 1994. Amy was a talented actor in school productions and was a winner of writing contests. She was a promising athlete in high school and participated in the first ever 3200 meter relay in Illinois girls track. After sustaining an injury, she went back to university and played a variety of roles on the stage, starting with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July” and then directed Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Da and Lemon. Amy has graduated from Knox College in Galesburg (Illinois) in the year of cum laude, with an A.A. in East Asian history and a concentration in Theater. After graduating, she moved to Chicago and studied Improv at The Improv Olympic. She also pursued acting at The Actor's Center. After graduation, she took the job of a contract actress on the soap drama Another World (1964). In the category of "Outstanding support actress on the Daytime Drama Series", she has been nominated to Daytime Emmy Awards. The most memorable of her roles have been of strong women in the roles of Alex Taylor in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone in Falcone (2000), Katie Owen as Tom Berenger in Peacemakers (2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods. Carlson lives in New York City with husband Syd Butler, bassist for Les Savy Fav, where she is also employed in the business of independent music as part-owner of an independent label "Frenchkiss Records". Amy is still working in film and writing.
